about
I used to play in a band called ute in Oxford. We kicked around the same venues and drank in the same pubs as the band Stornoway. Their song 'Fuel Up' reminds me of that time, of the thriving live music scene and some of the music venues we've lost along the way. Although their lyrics are a message to keep going, and that things will get better, I wanted to colour the words with some uncertainty using a darker and more rickety musical accompaniment. To reflect the sense of time and nostalgia in the lyrics, the cello part phases , moving in and out of time with itself to an old marching band bass drum.
